Khamoro Praha 2017:            Program                Performers                Other events

Learn csapas dances and Roma anthem on the streets of Prague city centre!

Today at 2 pm, you can join singing and dance workshops right in the centre of Prague – at the Na Příkopě street. Free for everyone!

The members of Mercy dance group from Brno, who by their precise and speed dance entranced also the jurors and audience of one of the TV talent shows, will introduce you to Vlaxika csapas dance. Enjoy the special atmosphere and learn something you will never come across in any dancing lessons!

And if you do not dance or are not too keen on playing guitar, do not give up. This year’s Khamoro is offering also a vocal activity: an open-air lesson of the international Roma anthem Djelem, djelem.

Then, at 4 pm, let’s get drawn into the stories of old Roma next to St. Vaclav church at Prague 5. Their stories will show you the way of life in settlements in Eastern Slovakia or, on the contrary, in South Moravia where the Roma mostly lived together with the mainstream population. They will also tell stories about situations in which the Roma used their spells and magic, and how they used to negotiate marriages. Your guides will be three storytellers – Ladislav Goral, an activist and an actor, Karel Holomek, a dissident and the original Moravian Roma, and Olga Fečová, the founder of the children's choir Čhavorikani Luma and wife of Jožka Fečo, the prominent Roma bandleader.
