Fifteen years ago, Khamoro was part of the programme of Prague as the European Capital of Culture.
This year, it is Pilsen bearing the title and Khamoro is continuing the tradition. Within the Pilsen – European Capital of Culture program Khamoro introduces concerts and a variety of side events. The audience can be looking forward to gypsy jazz, traditional Roma music, a community program and a live installation of a giant cake!
It is the community program that will launch Khamoro in Pilsen. You will have the pleasure to enjoy a broad portfolio of events. Let us mention e.g. dance workshops where the most erudite will teach you the traditional Roma dances as well as e.g. street dance. You will also have a chance to see a show given by the winners of the regional round of Street Battle Jam competition that will culminate during Khamoro in Prague. Those of you who are skilful can try to make jewellery, or can attend an art workshop led by a famous Roma fine artist from Serbia, Zoran Tairović. As a part of the programme, tales will be told by the old Roma. Ilona Ferková, a Roma activist, Štefan Tišer, an activist, and Andrej Giňa, a writer, will lead you to the world of Roma story tellers. And music will not be missing either! A performance of Mixes, a Roma gospel choir will be there for you!
