!DELADAP/Austria-Czech
Republic- Bosnia- Serbia- Russia
!DelaDap defines their music style derived from Roma-Gypsy-Root as
„Nu-Gypsy“, an original mix of chic jazz and urban electronics. The band
interprets very originally the proud elegance which Roma inherited from their
Indian ancestors. However, their main principle is to enrich, bring diversity
and challenge into musical world of Gypsies rather than to use or abuse the
long-standing tradition only as a flashy decoration for pop-songs.
The members of !DelaDap are well aware of the importance of Roma music, for
its influence has changed the face of today’s music forever. It was Roma who
influenced the evolution of what we now consider to be typical European
music-styles, like flamenco, waltz or Hungarian czardas. None of these genres
would ever sound as it does today without the musical input rooted in India and
being brought to us by the Roma peoples.
We can see the band at the festival KHAMORO in the cast: Stani Vana/ DJ, Alen
Džambič/ accordion, Pavel Shalman/ violin, Kristina Gunarová/vocals, Simona
Šenkiová/ vocals, Jovan Torbica/ double-bass, Alexander Stoijć/guitar.
!DelaDap are regularly invited to major European festivals and steadily
broadcasted in popular TV and radio stations (WDR, ORF etc.). The band has
acquired notable success even in the Czech Republic, especially with film-music
for the movie Children of the night (Děti noci -2008).

THE
ROSENBERG TRIO/ the Netherlands
The Rosenberg trio is a real top of the world’s jazz-music. This band is
formed by three cousins Nonnie (double-bass), Nous'che (rhythmical guitar) and
Stochelo Rosenberg (solo guitar). All three have been playing music since their
childhood days at family reunions, religious celebrations, and more and more
events as their talent grew, owing to excellent examples right in their family.
They were absorbed by music, taught to play by ear and practice restlessly,
playing the classics over and over again. However, neither of the three can
actually read nor write music. Their music could be characterized by internal
consistency, precise breathtaking rhythms, brilliant technique and incredible
virtuosity. This band is a truly unique act in the world of jazz, both in their
own rendering of jazz standards, of Djang Reinhardt’s classic compositions and
in the greatly melodic original tunes that Stochelo himself manages to compose.
Perhaps that’s why they were adopted by the legendary violinist Maestro Stéphane
Grappelli, who, after seeing and hearing them for the first time, immediately
invited them to play with him throughout Europe, and also to celebrate his 85th
birthday at New York's Carnegie Hall. The Rosenberg trio is the real essence of
Gypsy musical mastery. At the age of 12, Stochelo won a child’s musical contest
on Dutch TV, and since then the trio has been constantly on the rise, gathering
further achievements.
The band’s debut - Seresta, was merely a beginning followed by number of
award-winning albums, which were appreciated by jazz lovers as well as critics.
Their latest album ´Tribute to Stephan Grappelli´ featuring Tim Kliphuis on
violin was released in March 2008.
The trio is now considered to be a guarantee of a great musical experience,
energetic and emotional. The concert is a part of the program ´Days of Dutch
Roma´.

LELO
NIKA/ Denmark - Romania
Lelo Nika is a real master of accordion. Born in Serbia he moved to Denmark
when he was just 1 year old. He comes from a family of musicians – his father,
grandfather and uncle all played – and played well enough to make their living
of it. Thus, Lelo Nika has been brought up in environment where music was an
important part of life. When 10 years old, he left his family for Nikolinci,
where he spent 3 years at friend’s of his father, who happened to be his music
teacher and mentor. It was hard to be away from his family, but he intensively
practised and perfected his technique of play on accordion, and successfully
graduated from the conservatory. Today, the music of his own trio spreads
passionate touching, inspired by Serbian and Romanian traditions. As he says:
„Music needn’t be technically perfect, but it should have a peculiar, internal
hub to be able to communicate and testify. There are no boundaries in music and
I want to create something new myself.” Lelo constantly gives concerts and
produces records with another, renowned artists. The festival presents Lelo Nika
accompanied by Thommy Anderson/double-bass and George Mihalache/ dulcimer.

NADARA/
Romania
The group Nadara was created in 2001 in a small village of Transylvania,
Romania. Transylvania is a land with abundant musical and dance folklore
traditions, where Romanian, Hungarian, German, Jewish and Roma ethnics live
together. Traditionally, Roma musicians here offer their music to be played at
numerous gatherings. It’s read for the fathers to perform with their sons,
cousins and brothers at celebrations and weddings of all kinds, for music is a
solid particle of a local family life. This is the brightly coloured environment
of Nadara´s members. Thanks to their family musical legacy, they preserve the
secrets of their ancestors, which they develop with their own style and
innovative view on Transylvanian folk music. Nadara´s music is characteristic
with its rich repertoire and the virtuosity of its musicians. To the traditional
trio (violin, double-bass), they added vocals, guitars, saxophone and accordion.
Most of their songs´ lyrics are presented in Romani language. These traditional
Roma songs usually describe daily life of Roma people or the singer’s momentary
mood. Their original instrumental composition together with a strong connection
to Roma traditions shows Nadara as an interesting example of musical renewal
with respect to the heritage of their ancestors.

ŠUTKA/
Macedonia
The brass-orchestra Šutka come from Macedonia and is named after the biggest
Roma settlement in Europe. The band uses incredible Balkan rhythms, which can
cause a real cultural shock to the local audience. It is a fierce combination of
powerful brass sounds, Turkish- Bulgarian rhythms and oriental solos, which are
masterly, brilliant and wild at the same time. Balkan brass-bands are of a
significantly Roma character and from Western Serbia to Macedonia they have
adopted remarkably creative approach in converting the original rigid style of
traditional brass-bands. These ensembles emerged in the 19th century as an
imitation of Turkish military orchestras, which were replacing from 1828 the
clusters of Turkish janissaries called Mehterhane. All band members come from
musical families with a long-lasting tradition and play foremost traditional
Roma and Balkan music. You will be blown away by the spectacle of stormy sound
and invigorating energy.

feasts of southern Italy, Italian-Mediterranean-Gypsy style with original folk

ŠPORCL & ROMANO STILO/The Czech Republic, The Slovak Republic
Thank to his virtuosity and unconventional performing style, Pavel Šporcl, the
most distinctive young award-winning Czech violinist, has been enjoying success
with audiences of all ages on the most prestigious stages. Referred to as „the
violinist for the 21st century“, his recordings top the classical music sales
charts. He is the only young Czech violinist to have been included by the
world-famous critic and historian Henry Roth in his book “Violin Virtuosos: From
Paganini to the 21st century”.
Pavel Šporcl met the cimbalom ensemble Romano Stilo at a benefit concert in
Bratislava. Playing together made such a deep impression on him that soon Pavel
started to plan a joint recording session. Romano Stilo was founded in Slovakia
in 2006 by several virtuoso musicians of Roma origin. Graduates of music
academies in Slovakia and Hungary, they nonetheless have a healthy disrespect
for genre compartmentalization. The core of their repertoire is Gypsy, Slovak,
Hungarian, Romanian and Russian folk songs and instrumental compositions. Yet
with the same mastery with which they play classical music and, when they feel
like it, they spice their music up with a soupçon of jazz.
The band plays in the following line-up: Pavel Šporcl/violin, Marek Rajt/ 1st
violin, Nikola Sléz/ 2nd violin, László Onodi/ guitar, viola, Martin Rajt/
double bass, František Rigo/ cimbalom, František Rigo Jr./electric piano.
