the festival Nethworks.cz).Their targeted ambition is to bring in rich cultural
program introducing the Roma culture and art from this European country.
Days of Dutch Roma offer plentiful attractions for everyone: 2 Gypsy jazz

Exhibition „Šahin Šišić – E Romenge/ the Roma“
Within the scope of Days of Dutch Roma we have prepared an exhibition of
photographs by a Bosnian photographer and a film-maker Šahin Šišić, who
lives and works in the Netherlands. His black and white photographs, which
are presented at the exhibition „E Romenge – the Roma“, portray former
Yugoslavia as perceived by the author during his stay there. The exhibition
beautifully reflects rich diversity of the Roma ethnic group, taking you on
a journey through their mental world and environment. The exhibition is a
part of Days of Dutch Roma.
Opening of the exhibition takes place 29.5.2009
Documentary films

This year we have prepared the projection of three documentaries directed
by Bob Entrop. The first movie you will be shown is named „ No Place of
Their Own“(90min) and initiates the audience into ordinary lives, values and
desires of several Gypsy families.

The second film „Gypsy music hurts“(80min) is a portrait of an
exceptional violinist Nella Miranda, who controls his instrument only with
the help of three fingers. It exemplifies the passion, tragedy, hardship and
suffering.

The third film „A blue hole in the sky“(105min) tells the story of 12
people, who survived World War II and it is their first time confiding the
shocking experience onto the camera.
This project is a part of the program Days of Dutch Roma.
The cine-meeting takes place 25.5.2009/Aero cinema
Exhibition „Otto Pankok – Sinti“
Otto Pankok (1893-1965) is one of the most significant German artists, who
devoted his work and his personal life to the Sinti and Roma minorities. It is
this intense recognition of minorities and variety of artistic techniques that
play a key-role in life-work of the artist. He’s known for a very positive
relationship and affinity for Roma, especially during the Nazis regime. His
entire work is closely related to the gruesome period of history – the
Holocaust, during which these ethnic groups were victimized. His work is a
precious testimony of the ongoing horrors of the genocide, as he most intensely
of all German artists dwells on veracious picture of the Nazis regime. The
exhibition also illustrates the afflictions caused to the author by the regime,
whereas he was also prosecuted by the Nazis, wasn’t able to exhibit and many of
his works were removed from galleries and destroyed.
This exhibition presents Pankok´s wood-carvings, bronze sculptures, photographs,
original books, lithographs and info panels providing data about the author in
the historical context of his work.
Opening of the exhibition takes place 28.5.2009 /palac Aventin
Exhibition “Jiří Doležel – Roma from Vsetin“
This photographic exhibition entitled „ Roma from Vsetín“was provided by the
Agency for social conclusion in Roma localities at the Czech Governmental
Office. These photos recorded the events of 2005, when the Vsetín City Hall
decided to relocate four good- sized families to Jeseníky. When interviewed, all
families indicated, that they had been forced to leave Vsetín under the threat
of eviction and withrawal of their children. In doing so, they repeatedly
expressed the desire to return to their town of Vsetín. Adoption of newly- moved
family members was strongly stigmatized by the image created by media
representatives from Vsetín, by whom they had been referred to as dodgers and
maladjusted citizens. Jiří Doležel is a free-lance photographer and focuses
mainly on documentary photography. He works in collaboration with non-profit
sector in the in the Czech Republic and is a prize-holder of UNHCR – Czech Press
Photo 2006 and Documentary photography and discrimination 2007, which he was
awarded by the Multicultural Centre Prague. He also published a book EPI CENTER,
which depicts a humanitarian mission in earthquake- affected areas of Pakistan.

International Workshops for Youth “We Are on the Long Way”
International Youth Meeting “We Are on the Long Way” is a long-term project
of the organization “Slovo 21”. The aim of this meeting is to help young Roma to
find their place in society by strengthening their sense of identity. In 2009,
already second execution of this project takes place, this time within the
framework of the World Roma Festival KHAMORO. We will introduce 20 young people
from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Germany participating in
the project. When we organized a similar meeting last year, we asked the
participants, what projects they would like to implement. From all proposed
ideas it emerged, they firstly wanted to acquire proper education, information
and experience, which they would later transmit to the Roma community itself, as
well as to the general public, all in order to meet the vision of a functioning
multicultural society without prejudice. Therefore, this year the meeting is
divided into an educational part, where the partakers learn more about history,
culture, language and traditions of Roma, and a practical part, in which many
young people themselves launch a workshop for Roma children and a public
happening in the Old Town Square. The workshops are a part of the Days of Dutch
Roma.
The workshops take place 24.5 .- 31.5.2009
